I have been charged with sedition by the government for exercising my freedom of speech. To protect Kangleipak from forceful assimilation is a duty. I will not stop writing, says Erendro
Imphal: Political activist Erendro Leichombam has been reportedly booked under sedition charges by the Manipur government. He has been slapped with Section 124 A, Section 153 (causing provocation to riot) and Section 505 (public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
On Tuesday, Erendro wrote on his Facebook page and said that he has been charged with sedition by the government for exercising freedom of speech.
“I have been charged with sedition by the government for exercising my freedom of speech. To protect Kangleipak from a forceful assimilation is a duty. I will not stop writing. You cannot gag all your critics. Some of us still love our homeland,” he said.
He further said that you can imprison my body, how will you imprison my mind?
Recently, the Manipur political activist took to his social media handle and commented in a ‘bowing photo’ of the titular king of Manipur and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba with union home minister Amit Shah as ‘Minai Macha’ meaning servant in a loose translation.
As per reports, police came at his residence at Thangmeiband in Imphal West district to arrest the political activist on July 26 midnight, but the police personnel returned asking the family members to report at Porompat Police Station.
Erendro, who is the People’s Resurgence and Justice Alliance (PRJA) convenor, is reportedly in Delhi and was not available on the day the police came to arrest him.
A Harvard postgraduate in economic, Erendro, had contested the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election in 2017 but he was defeated at Thangmeiband Assembly constituency.
