Flu clinic & COVID-19 ward in STNM Hospital, Sikkim

GANGTOK: Sikkim registered 45 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the current state tally of active cases to 397 and overall 545 cases till Sunday night.

East district and South District reported 14 and 31 new cases respectively while no new cases have been reported from West and North districts.

In his daily health bulletin, state health director general Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia said, “Among the new cases, five have been reported in Rapid Antigen testing conducted while other 40 in RT-PCR out of 464. Altogether 20 tests were conducted in TrueNat and all of which resulted negative.”

While giving the breakdown of the cases, Dr Bhutia said, “Among the 40 positive patients reported in RT-PCR testing, 30 are the contacts of the earlier positive patients from Zydus Wellness Company of Mamring, South Sikkim where 157 samples were collected. One new case came from Jorethang, South Sikkim, who is a contact of Timburbong positive cases where 17 samples were collected earlier.”

In East Sikkim, four positive cases were reported from the Flu Clinic of New STNM Hospital in Sochyakgang near Gangtok. They are the contacts of the patients from Arithang, Gangtok working in a vegetable shop in Bojoghari. Three members of the catering team of Chanatar death ceremony also reported positive from Singtam. One case from Rhenock and one from Samdong, who is also the primary contacts of the positive patient from Arithang,” informed Dr Bhutia.

On the demise of the COVID19 patient and the death of another COVID19 suspected patient, he ascertained the latter to be COVID19 negative.

“The death was unexpected, and we hope no further casualties due to COVID19 in the State,” he added.
