SILCHAR: A 23-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly indulging in bestiality (unnatural sex) with a calf in Sarala under Kadamtala police station near the Assam-Tripura inter-state border in the North Tripura district on Tuesday.
The arrested youth identified as Halim Uddin hails from Kotamoni, Patharkandi in south Assam’s Karimganj district and is a daily wage earner by profession.
Sources said the incident took place in Bangaljum area of Sarala GP, about 120 km from Silchar town, at about 11:46 pm on Tuesday when Halim, who was assigned to work as a labourer at a water supply project in the area, allegedly took the calf to a secluded place when no other worker was present at the worksite.
A kid from the neighbourhood allegedly saw Halim taking the cow, and alerted some local residents. The locals, who allegedly found him having sexual intercourse with the animal, nabbed him and informed the police.
A police team from the Kadamtala police station then reached the spot and arrested Halim.
S. Deb, officer in-charge at Kadamtala police station, told EastMojo on Wednesday that the arrested youth has partially confessed to his crime.
“A case under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code and under the relevant section of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 has been registered. He will be produced before a court on Wednesday,” he said.

The calf, which was injured when Halim was allegedly forcibly trying to have sexual intercourse with it, was sent to a local veterinary hospital for a medical examination after which the calf’s owner took the animal home, sources said.
Asked about the condition of the calf, Deb said the initial investigation has revealed that the animal suffered injuries. The medical examination report of the calf is yet to be received, the officer-in-charge said.
