Manipur: Naga body warns against threats to Nagas in Imphal

Guwahati: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has raised concerns over threats and intimidations faced by the Naga community living in the Imphal area.

Through a note, the MNYO informed that in response to numerous complaints, the MNYO convened an emergency meeting on May 12, at the Tarung Community Hall in Imphal, along with leaders from Naga youth clubs of Imphal Naga Villages.

Chaired by MNYO president Athot Keitang and co-chaired by Momo Tantanga, Vice President of MNYO, the members deliberated on the escalating incidents of threats, looting, and physical torture against the Naga people in and around Imphal. Poudin Riamei, General Secretary of MNYO, recorded the proceedings of the meeting.

The meeting coincided with recent incidents that occurred in three different places in the Imphal area on May 8.

In response to the situation, the meeting resolved that any Naga individual residing in Imphal, and its periphery is strictly prohibited from paying any ransom money if demands are made by armed organiations or unknown miscreants.

Instead, individuals facing intimidations or threats have been encouraged to inform the local Youth Club and the MNYO Office.
