Agartala: People in the 20-40 age group in Tripura have been the worst hit in the second wave of the pandemic, according to data released by the state health department.
Among 665 people who tested positive till April 23, over half are below the age of 40.
However, the most worrying thing is that children below the age of 10 are also affected by the second wave.
Speaking with EastMojo, Dr Siddhartha Shiva Jaiswal, state director of the National Health Mission, said that the citizens in their sixties are relatively protected this year from the Coronavirus.
“The impact of vaccination has saved senior citizens from getting coronary heart disease. However, young people have not been vaccinated, so they are more likely to be infected with Coronavirus,” Jaiswal said.

According to the health department, of the positive cases in Tripura, the age group split is as follows:
Age group 0-10: 1.95 per cent
Age group of 10-20, 5.56 per cent
Age group of 20-30: 27.33 per cent
Age group of 30-40: 23.46 per cent
Age group of 40-50: 14.74 per cent
Age group of 50 to 60: 14.59 per cent
Age group of 60-70: 8.12 per cent
Age group of 70-80: 3.48 per cent
A total of 8.39 lakh people have taken the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Tripura, 24 per cent of the total population, whereas the national average is only 6 per cent.
“So far, 3,34,81 people above 60 years of age have been vaccinated with COVID-19 in the state. The average vaccination rate is 76.1 per cent. In addition, 4,28,873 people aged 45 to 59 years have been vaccinated,” Jaiswal said.
