The report of the 5th round of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2019-20 provides valuable information on matters of population, health and nutrition for the States and Union Territories in India. Like in previous rounds, the International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai was appointed as the nodal agency to survey by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

In the 5th round of the NFHS, new themes like preschool education, disability, access to a toilet facility and death registration, among others, are included. The main objective of the NFHS series has been to furnish high-quality data on health and family welfare and pertinent issues in this domain. The survey report also reveals the effectiveness of various flagship health schemes and further, identifies groups that are most vulnerable and requires essential health services.

Nielsen India Pvt Ltd conducted the NFHS-5 fieldwork in Assam between June and December 2019. A total of 30,119 households participated in the survey, including 34,979 women and 4,973 men.
