Kohima: A total of 40 new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Nagaland on Friday taking the state’s total to 956. A frontline worker from Peren and 39 others from Dimapur were tested positive for COVID-19. The fresh cases were reported out of 146 samples that were sent for testing.
As per the information received from the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) Office in Peren, a security person, who is a non healthcare frontline worker, tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday.
It informed that one case tested positive from the TrueNat machine and therefore, a confirmation is still awaited. Another case of TrueNat positive has been reported, however, on ICMR confirmation, the sample tested negative. Contact tracing has also been activated and active surveillance is being undertaken, it informed.
With the addition of the 40 new cases, the state’s tally spiked to 956. Nagaland health minister S Pangnyu Phom informed that another 14 patients from Peren district have recovered from COVID-19 on Friday.
The total number of recovered cases now stands at 405 and the number of active cases at 551. The recovery rate is now at 42.36%. Nagaland has so far not reported any COVID-19 related death.
Out of the 551 active cases, 548 persons are asymptomatic, two are mild symptomatic and one is moderate symptomatic case. As per an official update, one case with mild symptoms from Peren has been shifted to the district’s covid hospital from the covid care centre. A total of 2,922 persons are under facility quarantine as on Friday.
Taking to Twitter, the minister tweeted: “Update! Out of 146 samples tested, 40 positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. 39 in Dimapur & 1 in Peren.
And 14 COVID-19 patient from Peren have been recovered. However, the recovered patients will be kept under strict surveillance.”
As per the age wise distribution of the total confirmed cases, 736 are male and 220 are female which is 77% male and 23% female. As per the age-wise distribution, 93% are between 18-44, 5% between 45-64, 2% between 0-17 and 0.2% between 65-74.
Meanwhile, My Gov Nagaland also tweeted: “Covid-19 update #Nagaland 17th July 2020, 3:00 PM: 40 new +ve case confirmed out of 146 samples tested, 39 in Dimapur & 1 in Peren, total +ve cases 956. 14 earlier Covid19 positive persons have recovered.”
