Imphal: As part of Manipur government’s massive evacuation exercise of stranded persons from metro cities amid COVID-19 lockdown, a total of 1,200 passengers are en route to the state from Chennai on Sunday night, the first such evacuation by a special train.

As part of the Indian Railway’s 366 Shramik Special Trains, the train ferrying stranded residents of Manipur left the Chennai Railway Station around 8 pm on Sunday, as per sources.

The train, carrying mostly students and migrant workers, will arrive on Tuesday at Jiribam railway station in Jiribam district, which is bordering Cachar district in Assam, without making a stop on the way.
