Aizawl: The youth wing of opposition Congress on Saturday asked the Mizoram government to declare a state of emergency in view of the outbreak of fall armyworms, which have infested crops in the entire state, much to the woes of farmers.

A statement issued by Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) said that the infestation of the crop pest has covered the entire state and many farmers are in dismay due to fear of famine. “The government should declare agriculture emergency as part of massive effort to contain the outbreak,” the statement said.

The youth wing slammed the government for being slow in tackling the situation.
