Ukhrul: The last day of ShiRock 2022, one of the key entertainment events of the 4th edition of the state level Shirui Lily Festival, witnessed a massive footfall in Manipur’s hill district of Ukhrul on Saturday.

According to the organisers, at least 30,000 people across all age groups from different parts of Manipur and elsewhere gathered at Bakshi ground to witness the maiden performance of the Monuments, a British progressive metal band.

Unlike the previous editions, this year the annual rock musical entertainment which is part of the Shirui Lily festival focused to promote talents from the northeast region. 

The Monuments are the only international rock band featured in the latest edition of the ShiRock carnival.

“Unbelievable and absolutely extraordinary. I have no words other than insane,” said Andy Cizek, Monuments vocalist, right after the electrifying performance to entertained the crowd.

Notably, the Monuments had earlier performed in Mumbai and Bengaluru in 2020. And despite their debut performance in the northeast region, it was well received through their soaring choruses.

Upcoming local artists Yungyung and Kakami from Manipur opened the show with their rock-filled performances.

The evening also saw another performance from the Prophets from Mizoram, the winner of the rock band competition at ShiRock 2022. They received a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.

Another band from Meghalaya, Symphonic Illusions, and 1BHK from Manipur bagged second and third and received Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh, respectively.

This year, ShiRock has featured 16 of the finest rock bands from the north east region for the competition. 

Over the years, the music carnival has hosted some of the legendary rock bands like American rock band Extreme, Scottish band Nazareth, American glam metal band Steelheart and Queensryche, an American heavy metal band.
