Shillong: As Manipur gears up for elections, NPP chief Conrad K Sangma, on Monday, arrived in Imphal to kick start the election campaign.

Sangma, who is also the chief minister of Meghalaya, started the campaign with a meeting of party candidate Sheikh Noorul Hassan, who will be contesting in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2022.

Along with the NPP chief, Meghalaya MLAs Thomas Sangma and Marcuise Marak also attended the two election meetings held in Imphal.

The NPP chief addressed two election meetings – one in Kshetrigao Constituency and the other in Yaiskul Constituency, where Huidrom Vikramjit Singh is the party candidate. Both the meetings witnessed huge support in the form of people turnout.

Speaking at the rally, the NPP chief said the party is of strong conviction that the people of Manipur will bestow its support to the party. Sangma said the NPP as a party is working for the overall issues and concerns of the northeast.

He added that the NPP is committed to further work for the growth and development of the northeast, and sought the people’s mandate in Manipur to ensure that the objective of the NPP to unitedly work for the Northeast is achieved.

“We have a vision for Manipur, Northeast and the entire region. To realise our dreams, we need your support,” he said.

“Election in Manipur has given us an opportunity to seek the people’s mandate to take our agenda of Northeast forward”, he added.

He said that the people of Manipur are looking for an alternative and the NPP is in the best position to fill the vacuum in Manipur.

“The people of Manipur are looking for an alternative and the people want the NPP to be the single-largest party. We are confident that the people will give their mandate to NPP,” he added.
