Aizawl: Mizoram has seen a disappointing turnout in the ongoing elections, despite numerous awareness initiatives by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office. As of 5 pm today, the electoral voter turnout stood at a mere 53.96%, marking the lowest percentage among the northeastern states and a low percentage as per the states records.
In 2004, the voter turnout was 63.60%; 2009 it was 51.80 and in 2014 it was 61.95% and 63.14% in 2019.
Comparatively, neighbouring states displayed higher voter enthusiasm with Meghalaya recording a turnout of 61.95%, Nagaland with 54.17%, Sikkim with 52.72%, and Tripura leading the chart with 68.35%.
