Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the recent calamitous hailstorm and thunderstorm that ravaged the state, labeling it a national disaster.

MPCC President K. Meghachandra implored PM Modi to declare the recent natural disaster in Manipur as a national calamity, urging for an immediate allocation of a minimum of Rs 200 crore to aid the affected populace. Meghachandra emphasized the unprecedented nature of the disaster, highlighting the widespread damage caused to thousands of homes and affecting lakhs of residents.

The recent severe weather conditions, characterized by hailstorms and strong winds, struck various parts of Manipur, causing extensive destruction. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reported over 15,000 houses damaged due to heavy rainfall coupled with hailstorms, prompting the establishment of 42 relief camps across the state to accommodate affected individuals.
