Indian Boxing legend and Rajya Sabha MP Mary Kom‘s husband K Onkholer is all set to contest the upcoming Manipur General Assembly Election 2022 from 59 Saikot (ST) Assembly constituency of Churachandpur District.

K Onkholer made the declaration on Saturday in a blessing programme for the intending candidate held at his native village Samulamlan, of Saikot AC in Churachandpur district.

The blessing programme was attended by various church leaders, village chiefs and representatives, social workers, women and youth leaders of the Saikot constituency.

K Onkholer is vying for a BJP ticket to contest the election and wants to have a straight fight with veteran Congress leader and sitting MLA TN Haokip. However, as of now, he said he has not yet decided on joining any specific political party but indicated that he would like to fight the election on a BJP ticket r as an Independent, if he fails to get a ticket from the BJP.

Speaking on the occasion, Onkholer said that he is stepping into the world of politics after considering the needs of various developmental activities that needed to be taken up for the well-being of the people of his constituency.

Presently the constituency is witnessing various loopholes in terms of development and he wants to serve the public with the spirit of dedication and commitment, he said. He added that he made the decision to join electoral politics after due consultation with his wife Mary Kom, who is also a sitting Rajya Sabha MP.

Talking about the various election-related violence in the state, Onkholer said, “Election is not about fighting, it is just a competition. Let us refrain from any sort of violent act and firmly stick to peace.”

Pastors coming from various churches gave the blessing prayer for Onkholer and wished him good luck in the assembly elections.
