Imphal: In its continued efforts to crack down on insurgent activities in Manipur, troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) arrested three active militants of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in Chandel district on Saturday.

Based on intelligence inputs, the troops launched an operation in the area and arrested the three insurgents of PLA, a rebel outfit based in Manipur, said an official.

The arrested insurgents were handed over to Chakpikarong Police Station for further investigation, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chandel Battalion of the Assam Rifles also rescued two bear cubs from a forest near Larong Khunou Village in Manipur’s Chandel district on Saturday.

During a routine area patrolling near Larong Khunou village, troops of Assam Rifles located two suspicious individuals. The individuals escaped the site on observing the troops and left two bags at the site. On checking the bags, two bear cubs were found.

The matter was immediately reported to the officials of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau. Both the bear cubs were handed over to NGO People for Animals in Imphal for further action, an official said.
