Agartala: Acting on a tip-off, Tripura police on Thursday morning arrested notorious narcotics smuggler Sundar Ali from the Motinagar area under the Amtali police station. During the arrest, police recovered narcotic substances worth crores of rupees and seized a sophisticated pistol from his possession.

The joint operation was led by police personnel from Amtali Police Station and BSF troopers of the 42nd battalion. Launched in the early hours in response to specific intelligence input, the operation culminated in the arrest of Sundar Ali.

Speaking on the issue, Superintendent of Police West Tripura, Kiran Kumar, stated, “At around 3 AM, a joint operation was launched, leading to the arrest of narcotics smuggler Sundar Ali from the Motinagar area. The police and BSF troopers seized a pistol, two magazines, and eight rounds of live cartridges. Additionally, they confiscated 59,200 Yaba tablets and fifty bottles of banned cough syrup Phensedyl. Bangladeshi currency with a face value of 23,550 was also confiscated from his house.”

The estimated value of the seized materials is reportedly over Rs 1 crore.
