A video showing anchor of a reality dance show on Colors TV introducing a contestant from Assam as ‘Chinese’ went viral on social media on Monday, inviting widespread outrage from netizens.

The video clip is being misinterpreted, claimed the anchor Raghav Juyal, who shared a video on Instagram clearing the air around his ‘controversial’ and ‘racist’ comment.

Narrating the story behind the incident, Raghav said that the kids in the show are asked about their hobbies and interests when they first join them, to which Gunjan Sinha’s reply was that she could speak in ‘Chinese’, which he said was the same as ‘gibberish’, and which was why the comment was made without any intention to shame any community.

“Clarifying the misunderstanding. To all my NORTH EASTERN friends,” said the Raghav Juyal, who was a dance show contestant himself a few years ago.
