Doon School

Guwahati: As a part of their outreach program, The Doon School in Dehradun is conducting a pre-entrance scholarship exam in Guwahati and Tezpur to find exceptional boy students from the Northeast from lower income families.

The institute aims “to transform meritorious boys into leaders who serve meritocratic India”. The exam will be conducted on October 2, 2021, in both the cities.

Through this initiative, the school will provide students with scholarships up to 120 per cent based on their parental income for students who are in grades 6 and 7, for admission in grades 7 and 8 for the school’s next academic session, which will begin in April 2022.

The examination centres for the exam are Royal Global School and Army Public School (Narangi Cantonment) in Guwahati. In Tezpur, the Tezpur Science Academy and Army Public School (Tezpur Cantonment) are the designated examination centres.

The special registration fee for the scholarship exam has been fixed at Rs 100 to make it affordable for everyone as the school hopes to find the brightest talents from the region to provide them a platform for “a glorious academic and professional career ahead”.

Format of The Doon School Scholarship Exam (DSSE)

The examination will be a series of 3 hour 30 minute multilingual, paper-based offline exams with 10 minute gaps between each paper.

The test comprising four papers – Language (Vernacular and English), Sciences, Mathematics and Reasoning- will be conducted to identify students with high academic potential and calibre.

While proficiency in English may be helpful, it is not an essential requirement to appear for the exam.

Registration process

Students may register for the exam by filling the form here and following the following steps.

  • Click on ‘Register Now’.
  • After submitting the form, click on Registration Fee (Rs 100) payment tab on the link above and complete the transaction process.
  • Download the payment receipt and mail it to the school at or WhatsApp it to them at +91-730-243 and +91-730-243-9992.

On clearing the exam, the school will sponsor the visit of the child along with one guardian to travel to Dehradun and stay to appear for the written exam and interview which will be conducted in December.

Through this initiative, the school wishes to lower the entry barrier and make quality education at The Doon School accessible and affordable for exceptional boys from all backgrounds, which is otherwise perceived as a very expensive school exclusively reserved only for the elite.

“While we have 16% students who are on an average Scholarship of 48%, we hope to find bright deserving candidates who can be offered fully-funded seats based on parental income,” said Mr. Ravi Singhee, Chairman of the Diversity Committee, who is also an alumnus of the school.

He went on to add that the school only admits students in 7th and 8th standard and hence encouraged students studying in 6th and 7th standard to come forward and apply for the scholarship entrance exam.

Earlier on September 6, a delegation from The Doon School had visited Guwahati and Tezpur to interact with various stakeholders to discuss and decide the schedule for conducting the scholarship examination.

The committee also informed that similar exam will be conducted in Srinagar, Chennai & Coimbatore along the same lines.
