Imphal: At least five people and an assistant sub-inspector of Kakching Police have been injured following a clash between locals and the police in Manipur on Friday.
The locals were injured after the police used teargas, sources said.
As per a local resident, the incident took place along the Imphal-Moreh National Highway at Sora in Kakching district when officials of the survey department, along with local police personnel, came to conduct a land survey for the construction of a mega food park project at Yaithibi Loukol.

The clash broke out after some locals of Sora in Kakching district and Koijam Maring village in Tengnoupal district opposed the land demarcation carried out by the officials.
As shared by the locals, they insisted that the process be resumed after reaching a mutual understanding. However, the suggestion was ignored by the officials, leading to clash, they claimed.
It may be noted that this is not the first time the villagers of the affected area have protested against the government’s attempt to conduct a land survey.
Last year, a video was widely circulated on social media that showed a clash between the police and farmers as the paddy fields, which were ready for harvest, were being destroyed for the construction of the mega food park in the area.
