Well-known writer and former IAS officer from Assam, Rohini Kumar Baruah, succumbed to COVID-19 on Tuesday night.

Baruah breathed his last at the Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati.

After his retirement, Baruah, a prolific writer, served as the editor of the now-defunct Assamese daily ‘Natun Dainik’.

He also penned many books, including the latest one titled ‘India Viewed Through Its Northeast Window’.

As an IAS officer, Rohini Kumar Baruah made considerable contributions to the Assamese society.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his grief at the demise of the renowned personality. The CM paid his condolence towards the bereaved family and offers prayers for the departed.

As per the National Health Mission bulletin, Assam has 49,158 active COVID-19 cases. On Tuesday, the state recorded 3,948 new cases and 43 deaths.
