In a statement, Ulfa (I) said the blast was carried out by them

Tinsukia: Hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Sivasagar in Upper Assam on Saturday, United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) claimed responsibility for a blast at the army camp at Digboi in Assam’s Tinsukia district. The claim, however, was denied by a top official of the Indian Army.

In a press statement, Ulfa (I) said, yesterday at around 6.45 p.m., a bomb blast took place at the camp of 3 Garwal regiment of the Army in Digboi. “The blast was carried out by Ulfa (I).”

A source in the Army said there was no blast and the claims are false and misleading.

Another source in police said locals had heard a huge sound near army camp at Digboi in the evening. “Army has said nothing happened. Local police would go and visit the place today to find out what exactly happened.”

Officer of Digboi police station Nikunja Barman said local informed that they heard a sound coming from inside army camp.

“The army told our police team that nothing happened hence we did not enter the camp. We did not find any evidence of the blast outside the camp,” he added.
