With Diwali just around the corner, the most awaited festival of the year is here bringing in plethora of mouth-watering Diwali sweets and delicacies to savour. From snacks to sweets, Diwali is all about hogging on some of the most mouth-watering treats of all times.

Although the pandemic may have brought a halt to large congregations and Diwali gatherings, it doesn’t mean the spirits would be dampened, said Bikram one of the workers from Gokul Sweets, Beltola, while talking to team EastMojo. He also added, few years ago, the demand for sweets was more than what it is today. In fact, earlier they used to even increase manpower during Diwali which is not the case now.

Owner of a famous sweet shop in Guwahati said, “We have customers who seek both traditional sweets and sugar-free products. Demand for dry fruits and chocolates have gone up despite their soaring prices.” He added that a wide variety of dry fruits, traditional sweets would be available in their shop, prices ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 3,500 per kg.

Sourav, a worker at JB’s stated, people look for dry and fancy sweet items which have long shelf life during Diwali or any other festival. They prefer making those sweets which would last for at least a week or ten days. Earlier, people used to mostly gift sweets but in recent years, people prefer dry fruits, he added.

It’s customary to exchange extravagantly decorated boxes of mithai, dried fruit, nuts or silver serving dishes with family and friends. Shop keepers have started stocking gift items ranging from packed sweets to dry fruits ahead of the festival. Starting from laddoos, barfis, shrikhand and halwas, some of other items like mawa kachori, moti pak and sohan papdi are some specialities, we are preparing and stocking this time, said one of the worker from Kiranshree Sweet & Snacks.
