Agartala: A day after the Mizoram’s Mamit district administration imposed section 144 along Tripura-Mizoram village area, the Tripura government has sent a letter strongly responding to the order and claimed Phuldungsei as an integral part of Tripura.

The Tripura government has taken a tough stance to the Mamit district administration’s order demanding immediate withdrawal of Section 144 from Phuldungsei.
The additional secretary to the government of Tripura AK Bhattacharya on Saturday wrote a letter to the Mizoram home department OSD and deputy secretary David H Lalthangliana in this regard.

The Tripura government also said that the Mamit district magistrate has erroneously mentioned Betlingchhip (as also referred to as Thaidawr Tlang by few Mizos) which is currently under complete administrative control and possession of the Tripura under North Tripura district.
“Phuldungsei Jampui is under the Sabual Village Committee of Jampui Hills RD Block in Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura district. The Tripura government long ago built the ‘watch tower’ at the peak of Betlingchhip long back under the department of Tourism,” the order copy reads.

Section 144 was issued in Phuldungsei Zampui and Zomuantlang areas of Mamit district in Mizoram, fearing the law and order situation surrounding the construction of temples on the disputed border.
On October 19 and 20, an organization called Songrongma in Tripura planned to build a Shiva temple at Betlingcchip also known as Thaidawr Tlang locally.

Meanwhile, the Jampui Mizo Convention has called for a 48-hour shutdown on the same days. It is learned that the bandh has been called centering the construction of the temple.
The development comes two months after the Tripura government identified 130 residents of Phuldungsei enrolled in the electoral roll of Zampui Phuldungsei under Hacchek constituency of Mizoram.

Earlier in August the Kanchanpur Sub-divisional magistrate Chandani Chandaran wrote a letter to the government informing that Phuldungsei Village Council had been added as part of the constituency as Zampui Phuldungsei and 130 voters in the electoral roll of Zampui Phuldungsei are residents of Tripura.
“Traditional Phuldungsei VC as a whole (despite Eastern side falling in Mizoram) has been accepted as a part of Tripura. Hence, the inclusion of the VC and its residents in Mizoram electoral rolls seems to be problematic. There is an urgent need to demarcate the exact boundary between Mizoram and Tripura incorporating the entire Phuldungsei VC in Tripura,” the letter reads.
