Tripura: Month-long blood donation drive underway to meet shortage

Agartala: Amid the national lockdown over COVID-19 pandemic, the Tripura unit of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) started a mega month-long blood donation campaign across the state on Tuesday.

Speaking with EastMojo, BJYM state general secretary Samrat Ghosh said that the mega blood donation programme started on Tuesday and would continue for a month across all 60 mandals (assembly seats) in the state.

“We have taken a number of initiatives to help the people in the time of crisis across the state and those stranded in different parts of the country. The stranded students facing problems in different cities will also be helped by our workers,” Ghosh said.

He also said that the BJYM karyakartas (workers) will meet with people requesting them to install the Aarogya Setu mobile application on their phone. “As per the appeal made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, all the BJYM workers will also donate Rs 100 each for the PM Cares fund to ensure that people in need receive help from the government,” Ghosh added.

Apart from this, all the BJYM workers and supporters have been working tirelessly to ensure that food, masks and essential commodities reach every nook and corner of the state. The workers have also been distributing masks and medicines to the needy ones in far-flung villages in the time of crisis.

He also said that the youth wing of the BJP has no target set but they are coordinating with the chief medical officer (CMO) to organise the blood donation camps across all eight districts of the state.

The blood donation camps in the state had stopped following the announcement of the national lockdown. However, a few voluntary blood donation camps were organised with permission from the authorities to meet the requirement.
