Some bamboo-made water bottles on display

Agartala: The Tripura Khadi and Village Industries Commission (TKVIC) will soon export the first consignment of 2,000 bamboo-made water bottles to Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) in New Delhi, announced board chairman Rajib Bhattacharjee on Wednesday.

Speaking with EastMojo, Bhattacherjee said that on January 31 during an international conference on ‘Globalisation of Khadi’ in Jaipur, Rajasthan, the unique water bottles were exhibited.

“In a recent meeting in Assam, KVIC chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena expressed his happiness and the order for 2,000 water bottles was made. The bottles are being prepared to be dispatched soon from the state,” Bhattacherjee said.

Speaking further, he said that the bottles are prepared by the local artisans and under the cooperative societies the order for the water bottles are made by the board.

The board is also initiating measures to give stress on honey bee harvesting in the state so that the rural economy can be supported by the board.

“To boost the economy of the villages, we have also given stress on the honey bee harvesting. We have trained some beneficiaries and around 2,000 people were enlisted as beneficiaries. Once their training is completed, we will distribute beekeeping boxes among them to support the weaker section of the society. Tripura has a lot of potential of bee keeping,” Bhattacharjee added.

He also said that the state government will take the marketing responsibility of the honey and export it in other states.

“The aim is not only to empower the rural artisans and help them gain confidence in beekeeping, pottery and leather artistry, but also improve lifestyle. We have also a honey processing centre which was not being used properly, steps have been taken to revive the centre,” he added.
