Kohima: Nagaland’s Home Commissioner, Vyasan R, on Friday informed that security measures have been activated across the state amid concerns over potential influx of immigrants from Bangladesh.
Addressing a press conference in Kohima, Vyasan informed that a video conference was held with all Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to discuss potential influx of illegal immigrants arising from the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
The Home Commissioner emphasised the need for vigilance, urging the police and government agencies not to be caught off guard.
During the meeting, Vyasan said that he directed the DCs to activate security coordination measures and conduct surprise checks, particularly focusing on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system. He also instructed the DCs to engage with village councils and ensure that any unusual activities or incidents are reported immediately.
Vyasan suggested that DCs should hold cross-border meetings with their counterparts in Assam, as movements from Bangladesh could likely pass through that region. He informed that some districts, including Niuland, Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Wokha, and Peren, have already conducted meetings and initiated surprise checks in response to the alert.
The Home Commissioner noted that no unnatural movements have been detected in Nagaland so far but stressed the importance of maintaining open communication channels.
ILP checks, particularly at vulnerable entry points like railway stations, were emphasised as a crucial measure in the ongoing efforts to monitor and control any potential influx of people from Bangladesh.
Vyasan R highlighted the importance of staying alert, describing the situation as a “wake-up call” and ensuring that the issue remains on the radar of all relevant authorities.

Asked if the government has plans to provide asylum or deport any Bangladeshi illegal immigrants if detected, he said that such issues were not discussed beyond identification of unnatural movement.
He added that discussions are being conducted at the highest level in Nagaland to strictly enforce the ILP regime.
