Kohima: The Department of School Education (DoSE), in collaboration with Dream A Dream, organised a state-level workshop on ‘Need Assessment for Social and Emotional Well-being Intervention’ (NASEWI) at the Morung Hall, DoSE, in Kohima, on Friday.
The workshop, graced by Commissioner & Secretary of School Education, Kevileno Angami, aimed to address the social and emotional well-being of students and teachers in government schools in Nagaland.
Angami lauded the efforts of Dream A Dream in assisting the department in realising the visions outlined in the National Education Policy 2020.
She stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment and supportive ecosystem for students from socially adverse backgrounds to thrive and succeed. Emphasising the need for collaborative efforts between Dream A Dream and policy-makers, she highlighted the significance of equipping children with life skills, communication skills, and emotional management techniques to navigate challenges effectively.
Principal Director Thavasaleen K, IAS, shared the importance of social emotional learning in making education inclusive and meaningful. He commended Dream A Dream’s proposal for developing a “Social Wellbeing Curriculum” and highlighted the role of failure in building resilience and emotional relevance.
In partnership with DoSE, Dream A Dream will initiate a social and emotional well-being intervention in 176 public schools across 16 districts of Nagaland. The need assessment process conducted during the workshop provided valuable insights into the well-being status of students and teachers.
Dr. Sreehari Ravindranath and Dr. Joseph Thomas presented the findings and recommendations, highlighting areas of concern such as emotional well-being, personal well-being, and resilience among students. Teachers reported instances of unresolved anger outbursts and noted a lack of self-awareness and relationship-building skills among students.
