The voluntary organisation “Foundation for Drug-Free Mizoram” held a rally through the streets of Aizawl to celebrate its 7th anniversary. Under the theme “A Better Life Without Drugs,” the group campaigned in Bawngkawn, Dawrpui, Khatla, and Mission Veng to draw public attention.

The key speakers at the campaign included Rev. K. Lalpiangthara, Rev. C. Lalrochama, Captain Lalrinmawia, and Central YMA Vice President Prof. Lalnuntluanga.

The Foundation for Drug-Free Mizoram was established on April 1, 2019, at V. Thanga’s residence in Dawrpui by V. Lalnunthara and his team.

Over the past seven years, through efforts led by the organisation, 25,113 teenagers and children across 125 locations have voluntarily pledged to stay away from drugs. Currently, the organisation has 1,430 active members.

The foundation’s motto is “Ruihhlo Tel Lo Nun Duhawm Zawk” (A Better Life Without Drugs).

To achieve its mission, the organisation conducts awareness campaigns with a team of resource persons comprising medical doctors, pharmacists, psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical psychologists, social workers, and educationists.

Survivors of drug addiction also share their personal experiences to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.

The primary objective of the foundation is to counter the alarming rise in drug abuse among the youth of Mizoram, and it is intent on collaborating with experts to develop effective strategies to engage with Generation Alpha.
