Aizawl: On September 2 (US Eastern Time Zone), the Mizo Society of America hosted a grand celebration of Mizo Day, 2024, in Rockville, Maryland, USA. Chief Minister Lalduhoma, along with his wife, Liansailovi, and his granddaughter, Zodinthari, attended the event.
In his speech, the chief guest, Chief Minister Lalduhoma mentioned that the Mizo Society of America had invited him to be the Chief Guest for Mizo Day in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he could only join virtually from LPS Studio in Aizawl. He expressed his gratitude for being able to attend in person this time, acknowledging the warm welcome he received and the honor bestowed upon him and his family.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and unity among all Zo people and ethnicities. He also noted that his visit was with the permission of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, and that he had shared his itinerary with them. He mentioned that he had important discussions lined up in Washington, D.C., with the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), leaving little time for sightseeing or other activities.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma delved into the historical context of the Zo people, discussing the various terms used to describe them over the years, including ‘Lushai,’ ‘Kuki,’ ‘Chin,’ and ‘Zo.’
He provided detailed historical references to explain how these names were given by others and how ‘Zo’ is the original, generic name that encompasses all Zo people. He also highlighted the significance of land and language in preserving the identity of the Zo people.

He concluded by expressing hope for a future where all Zo people, divided by borders, might one day be reunited under a common identity. The Chief Minister also extended his appreciation to the Mizo Society of America for organizing the event and for their ongoing efforts to maintain the cultural heritage of the Mizo people in the diaspora.
