MSCW said, “On July 26, (1.30 pm), John Vanlalzawna and his wife Pi Lalsangpuii (28) were assaulted by Assam police and mob and suffered serious injuries while they were on their way back to Mizoram after dropping their relatives in Silchar.”
It said that the couple were confronted by the Assam police and mob while they were en route to Mizoram from Silchar in the border disputed area.
“They headed for Vairengte with no knowledge of the escalated tension or any warring whatsoever. Having realized that the couple was Mizo, they were stopped and the Assam police and mob dragged them out of their vehicle and let them go after they vandalized their vehicle.”
