Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday launched the State Focus Paper 2022-23 during a State Credit Seminar 2022-23 held at Hotel Imphal by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Manipur Regional Office, Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, CM Biren Singh expressed appreciation to NABARD and other banks for their credit support and providing assistance to the people of the state in carrying out varied livelihood activities. He continued that banks have now taken a crucial role in the development of the state, by reaching out to the needs of people and making the banking network accessible.
The CM shared that the state had recently launched the Sub-Division Development Monitoring Mission to identify people’s needs for ensuring inclusive growth. He said the government would send teams consisting of ministers and senior officials of different departments to hill districts to create awareness about the ill effects of poppy cultivation and sort out alternative arrangements. He appealed NABARD and other banks to join the team to assess whether credit support could be provided for carrying out alternative sources of livelihood.

Singh also sought support of banks in fulfilling the objective of the state government to provide ‘one livelihood in one family’ for around 4.5 lakh families who either don’t have any member with a government job or proper means to earning a livelihood. He asked NABARD to lead other banks in reaching out and providing credit assistance to such families.

During the seminar, the CM handed over awards of various categories to bankers. Indian Overseas Bank and State Bank of India were awarded in Annual Credit Target & Achievement, Manipur Rural Bank in Self Help Group Financing, Manipur State Cooperative Bank Ltd. in Joint Liability Group Financing and Heingang GPLMPCS was awarded for Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) category.
An overview of Credit Potential of Manipur was presented by NABARD DGM Khai Siamlal Guite. Discussion and interactive sessions on certain topics including Financing of Agriculture and Allied Sectors, Cooperative Movement & Implementation of Government Sponsored Schemes, Stand up India & MSME in Manipur, National Horticulture Mission and PMFBY, Credit Guarantee Scheme of MSME, Special KCC Campaigning and Agriculture and Banking-IT Role were also held.
Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Manipur P Vaiphei, Deputy General Manager, Reserve Bank of India, Imphal T Lhungdim, SLBC Convenor Representative, SBI, Manipur, M Nimai Singh, DGM, NABARD G Thangchinkhup, representatives of different banks and other officials also attended the seminar.
