Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday laid the foundation stone for the Manipur state Haj House in Lilong, Thoubal district.

Singh recalled that in 2018, the government had announced the need for constructing a Haj House in Manipur. The centre would provide accommodation and training for the Haj pilgrimage.

The CM said he would instruct the implementing agency to complete the Haj House within a year. The government is also gearing up for the completion of the Ima market in Lilong. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the market when he visits the state on January 4, the CM said.

The state government will pay Rs 30,000 per month as an honorarium to the Chairman of the Haj Committee. The state cabinet will also discuss the seventh pay commission to the Wakf board staff, the Minority Commission staff.

The government will also consider reservation in Higher Education and skill development training for the state’s Muslims, known as Pangal Meiteis.

Hafiz Quary Quayamuddin donated the land for the construction of Haj House.
