Only NPF party can give perfect peace and tranquillity in Manipur, says ex-MLA Samuel Risom

Imphal: Former MLA and central working president of Naga People’s Front (NPF) Samuel Risom has claimed that Manipur has witnessed “remarkable improvement of law and order”, and there is a drastic drop in bandhs and blockades over the years with the coming of the NPF.

Speaking exclusively to EastMojo, the former NPF legislator, who is currently the party’s legal advisor, said the NPF is the only party that can bring “perfect peace and tranquility” in Manipur.

Risom, who is seeking a party ticket to contest the third time in next year’s Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, said, “I leave it to the wisdom of the selection committee. And as a party leader, I want the NPF to strengthen and welcome everyone who have applied for the ticket.”

The former legislator from 44 Ukhrul assembly constituency shared that currently there is no talk of a pre-poll alliance with another political party. However, when the election is over, the party might go for an alliance for formation of good governance, he added.

Commenting on the recent Oting firing incident where 14 civilians were killed by the security forces in Nagaland’s Mon district, Risom stated that it was one of the most unfortunate incidents.

“It is shameful for the Government of India and even for that matter for the Nagas. Even if there is such kind of information about underground movement or Naga national workers are moving in that area, such kind of shooting was unwarranted. Because it is ceasefire time and shooting must completely cease,” he stated.

He further maintained that to avoid such kind of incident in future, the Government of India must withdraw the army completely from the Naga areas.

The NPF leader also commented that the so-called ‘mistaken identity’ reason is “a cheaply used term used by the government all these years”.

“This is highly misleading, fooling the people, not only the Nagas but the whole world. And no one believes their claim of mistaken identity or failure of intelligence. When the Indo-Naga political talks is about to be over, such kind of thing should be stopped completely from the government’s side,” he added.

The NPF leader also demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah resign “for telling lies in the Parliament on Oting firing incident”.

“It was a total lie fed by the Indian Army. The Home minister shouldn’t have taken their feeding completely. It would’ve been much better if he scrutinised at a proper level and then made the statement in Parliament,” he added.
