Imphal: Manipur has been awarded the most improved state in the category of small states at the India Today State of the States Conclave 2021. This is the second consecutive year that Manipur ranked the top slot among the small states in the country.

According to the report, since 2018, the northeastern state of Manipur has improved its performance in seven out of 12 categories such as economy, infrastructure, agriculture, health, governance, entrepreneurship and cleanliness.

On Sunday, Chief minister N Biren Singh posted his gratitude message on Facebook wall, “I’m thankful to India Today Group for recognising the growth story of Manipur over the last few years. With immense support from the people of this state, we have been able to achieve great connect with the people of the state and achieve great progress on various fronts.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony, CM Singh said that with the BJP-led government under his leadership about to complete five years in office, nothing could be most fulfilling than the recognition as the most improved small state in the country.

“Such recognition showcased my government’s commitment towards the people of Manipur at a national level. For the last five years, I have been working relentless for overall development in the state across all the areas but the primary prerequisite is the development in peace,” the chief minister said.

Singh added further stated that prior to his government, Manipur had been making headlines for insurgency, economic blockade and lack of political will to solve the perennial issues.

“We took all possible measures to end bloodshed in Manipur, and consequently the number of terror-related incident has dropped from more than 700 in 2014 to 113 in 2020,” informed Singh.

The last two years, the death toll has not crossed double figures, he added.

The CM also said that with peace making a comeback in the state after decades, his government’s next focus was on agriculture, health and education, and creating a self-sufficient economy.

“My government has worked hard to create an agri-driven economy in Manipur and it is heartening to see that our efforts have reflected in Manipur emerging as the most improved state in agriculture,” Singh said.

The chief minister further stated that it is easy to declare policies and programme but the bigger challenge is to take the real benefit to every household. That is the reason service delivering has been one of our key focus area, he said.

“I believe the ultimate parameters our governance is the satisfaction level of the citizen. And Manipur has been awarded the best performing state in governance is a testimony that our government has been moving in the right direction,” he added.
