Imphal: As many as 15 people were fined and sent to jail for three days for violating the COVID-19 SOPs in Imphal on Tuesday.
According to the official report, the offenders were produced before the chief judicial magistrate Imphal West, Y Somorjit Singh, and they pleaded guilty for not wearing a mask in public places.
The accused persons are convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of Rs 1,000 each and will undergo simple imprisonment for three days, said the order.
The accused persons paid a total fine of Rs 15,000 which will be deposited in the state account, it said.
Amid a surge of COVID-19 cases in Manipur, strict instructions were issued by the concerned authority and urged the public to implement the protocols and guidelines.
Moreover, police personnel have been deployed across the state to keep an eye on offenders and ensure that COVID-19 norms are being followed.
