Imphal: Human Rights Alert (HRA) executive director Babloo Loitongbam has criticised Manipur Police for arresting Sintha Laishram, the secretary general of the Committee Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA), Thoubal district committee, allegedly without any warrant on Wednesday.
Laishram was allegedly arrested for organising a protest meeting against the acquittal of Moreh Autonomous District Council (ADC) chairman Lukhosei Zou who was earlier apprehended with drugs worth several crores of rupees from his official residence in 2018.
In December last year, a special NDPS court had acquitted the Zour, who was then the chairman of Chandel ADC, in the multi-crore drug haul case of 2018 along with six others citing the failure of the prosecution to prove the allegation against them.
