Gangtok: Sikkim records eight COVID deaths in a day, taking the state’s tally to 84 deaths in May. The state death tally now stands at 232, with 96 deaths since April 22.

Of the eight deaths, six occurred in the STNM Hospital, taking the death tally to 178. The Central Referral Hospital recorded two deaths, taking the tally to 25 since April 26 when the hospital was declared a COVID-19 hospital.

The state recorded 101 COVID-19 cases. There was no RT PCR testing on Sunday as the government has notified one day of the week for sanitisation and rest for the microbiologists.

The state tally stands at 13,223 with 3,184 active cases in the state with 224 recoveries recorded in the day. Sikkim has recorded 5,281 cases in May and has been in a complete lockdown since May 16.

West Sikkim recorded 69 new cases, taking the district tally to 1,191 cases so far. East Sikkim recorded 26 new cases, taking the district tally to 9400 cases. South Sikkim recorded four new cases, while North Sikkim recorded two new cases.

There are 101 people in five COVID care centres, with 64 in Saramsa Garden COVID Care Centre, which houses 61 monks from Ganjong Monastery.

There are 2,852 people in home isolation with 86 of them being new admissions. There are 1654 people in home isolation East Sikkim alone.
