Imphal: A resident of Lantin Shaiza at Alungtang in the Ukhrul district was placed in a containment zone to prevent the spread of COVID-19 following reports of two returnees testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
According to reports, the father and son who tested positive for COVID-19 had returned from Mumbai. They are being kept at District Hospital Ukhrul, Hungpung.
A containment zone order was issued by the district assistant commissioner Kachamthai Faiga Gangmei stating that given the impending threat of the pandemic in the area, it has become expedient to issue containment measure to prevent the spread of the disease in the area.
As part of the containment measures, the district administration has ordered sealing the area.
They also barred the entry and exit of people from the containment area, school closure, and ban on public gatherings as well as ban on vehicular movement in the residential area of Lantin Shaiza at Alungtang. They have also activated surveillance of COVID-19 cases in the containment zone.
Any persons/institutions/organisations found violating any of the measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, it said.
In the last 24 hours, five more persons, including two female, were detected positive for COVID-19 in Manipur. The state currently has 57 active cases.
