Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati), in collaboration with EduRade, a brand under RC HobbyTech Solutions Pvt Ltd and incubated at IIT Guwahati Research Park, has inaugurated India’s largest Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO).
Spanning across 18 acres, this state-of-the-art facility is equipped to train individuals in drone technology, with the capacity to operate nine medium-class drones simultaneously.
The primary aim of this initiative is to advance drone technology in India, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to establish the country as a global drone hub by 2030, contributing to the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ initiative.
The launch of IIT Guwahati RPTO underscores the Institute’s commitment to transforming drone education. Initially, the RPTO will offer a DGCA-Certified Medium Class Drone Pilot Training Course, targeting youth in the North East and beyond.
It aims to cater to women from self-help groups engaged in agriculture, as part of the Namo Drone Didi Yojna. Upon completion, participants will receive a Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC) sanctioned by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), enabling them to pursue careers as Certified Drone Pilots.
Moreover, IIT Guwahati is conducting a pioneering drone training program for defense personnel, specifically designed for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) and other officers. This three-month program aims to modernize armed forces operations by providing comprehensive training in various aspects of drone technologies.
Speaking about the launch, Prof Parameswar K. Iyer, Dean PRBR at IIT Guwahati, highlighted the Institute’s commitment to fostering innovation in drone technology. Biswajit Dey, Director of RC Hobbytech Solutions Pvt Ltd, emphasised the collaboration’s objective to support various industries with drone pilots, including agriculture, disaster management, real estate, and logistics.
The collaboration between IIT Guwahati and EduRade signifies a joint effort to drive innovation, empower youth and entrepreneurs, and foster socio-economic development through responsible drone technology integration. By nurturing certified drone pilots and facilitating industry partnerships, this initiative is poised to make a significant impact on the regional and national drone ecosystem.
