Guwahati: In a significant move to foster scientific talent at the school level, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) has partnered with the Assam government to launch a series of training and mentoring programs for teachers and students.
The initiatives, aligned with the state government’s commitment to implementing the National Education Policy 2020, aim to bridge the gap between talented students and the correct destination for honing their skills in research and innovation.
As part of these efforts, IIT Guwahati recently organised a five-day orientation program for 110 school students from the state. The program, held in the presence of the Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Medical Education & Research, Science & Technology, Information Technology; Keshab Mahanta, focused on inspiring students to explore opportunities in science & technology, and enhancing their understanding of scientific studies.
During the event, Mahanta emphasised the importance of embracing curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, encouraging students to engage with IIT Guwahati professors to deepen their understanding of scientific studies.
The program also included a live interaction with the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who inspired students to pursue science and technology for their future growth and commended IIT Guwahati for its pivotal role in nurturing innovation and excellence in education.
In addition to the student orientation program, IIT Guwahati conducted a five-day residential teacher training program to equip teachers with the skills and knowledge required to foster innovation and experiential learning in schools.

The training program, conducted in two batches, saw the participation of over 560 teachers from 335 schools across all 33 districts. The program trained teachers in several STEM topics, including Basic Electronics, Block-based Coding, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, and 3D Design and Printing.
These initiatives by IIT Guwahati are part of its commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and experiential learning, particularly at the grassroots level.
