Guwahati: Dr. Susan M. Cheyne, Vice-chair of the IUCN Primate Specialist Group Section on Small Apes, visited Aaranyak’s office today in Guwahati.
She was warmly received by Dr Dilip Chetry, Head of Aaranyak’s Primate Research and Conservation Division, who briefed her on the various conservation efforts the organization is undertaking for Hoolock gibbons in Northeast India.
During the visit, the two senior primatologists engaged in a detailed discussion about the conservation of Western Hoolock gibbons in India.
Dr. Cheyne expressed her admiration for Aaranyak’s initiatives in Gibbon Conservation in India and emphasized the importance of developing state-wise Gibbon Conservation action plans for the species.
