Nature's Wonderland Campaign by Aranyak

Guwahati : Aaranyak, a leading biodiversity conservation organization in the region, has launched an urban nature educational campaign titled “Nature’s Wonderland – a Journey of Curiosity,” aimed at introducing nature to urban dwellers. This initiative has garnered significant enthusiasm among students and youths, with over 150 participants engaged in learning about forest life and conservation consciousness.

The latest chapter of this campaign took place in the serene environs of Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, in collaboration with Guwahati Wildlife Division. Situated in close proximity to Guwahati, the sanctuary not only maintains ecological balance but also acts as a natural buffer, providing a green cover around the city. Moreover, it plays a crucial role in mitigating the urban heat island effect, improving air quality, and offering a visual respite from urbanization. The sanctuary’s presence is instrumental in safeguarding water resources as well.

On March 13, a group of 16 nature enthusiasts participated in a nature trail organized within the sanctuary. Led by Aaranyak’s expert team, the trail aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of forest ecology and species diversity.

Wasima Begum, Aaranyak’s environment facilitator, highlighted that six editions of the “Nature’s Wonderland – a Journey of Curiosity” program have been conducted to date, involving over 150 students and youths. Apart from Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary, activities were also conducted at Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden and Rani Reserve Forest of Assam.

Sagarika Pathak, an MSc student who attended one of the programs, shared her experience, stating, “I am a nature lover, and I joined Aaranyak on this nature trail program at the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary. Throughout the journey, Aaranyak’s experts helped us identify various species of plants, birds, insects, and small mammals we encountered, educating us on their importance for the environment and our well-being.”

The “Nature’s Wonderland” campaign offers various activities, including “Find a Tree,” learning sessions on bird watching, and interactive games to enhance understanding of nature.

Supported by Wipro Earthian and LEA Associates South Asia Pvt Ltd (LASA), the program is spearheaded by Aaranyak’s senior official Jayanta Kumar Pathak. Aaranyak Official Pranab Goswami coordinates the event alongside environmental educator Wasima Begum.

The initiative marks a significant step towards fostering environmental awareness and nurturing a generation of nature-conscious individuals.
