Assam: Women play crucial role in mitigating Human-Elephant conflict

Guwahati: The concerted efforts of women from local communities have been pivotal in Aaranyak’s sustained endeavors to mitigate the human-elephant conflict (HEC) in various hotspots across Udalguri, Baksa, and Tamulpur districts of Assam.

Supported by the SBI Foundation (SBIF), Aaranyak has actively engaged with communities to address the challenges posed by HEC.

Women from these communities have been central to Aaranyak’s initiatives, focusing on economic empowerment by providing livelihood options and imparting skills in administering first aid during HEC-induced emergencies. Additionally, efforts have been made to ensure the safety and security of women’s lives and livelihoods through the installation of solar-powered fences and other HEC mitigation tools.
