Tinsukia: Public Sector giant Oil India Limited (OIL) has been put on “high alert” following an intel from Assam Police on the possibility of an attack on its vital installations and kidnapping of officials in Upper Assam by insurgent groups.

The advisory has come on the backdrop of a steep rise in recruitment by banned outfit United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) (Independent), prompting OIL authorities to convene an emergency security review meeting.

Confirming the development, OIL spokesperson Tridiv Hazarika said, “We have received an intelligence input from Assam Police, highlighting the possibility of target of vital installations and kidnapping officials in Upper Assam.”

“Accordingly, an internal security review meeting was held on Wednesday, and several decision were taken considering the recent security alert.”

“As it is security related matter, more details cannot be shared with the press,” added Hazarika.

According to the minutes of the emergency meeting, accessed by EastMojo, all officials and employees have been directed to follow standard operating procedure (SOP) and instructions as the alert is of “serious” nature.

“The movement during evening and night hours of officials and employees have been restricted including official or personal nature movement. Any urgent movement during the said hours have to be informed to the security department.” The meeting held at RCE Conference Hall was chaired by RCE officiating Anfor Ali Haque.

“It has been decided to beef up security of all vital installations and to liaise with police and security agencies for necessary action,” a source told EastMojo.

The meeting was attended by head of various department, CISF, AISF among others.

Recently, Assam Minister for Labour Welfare Sanjoy Kishan had apologized to Ulfa (I) supremo Paresh Barua, for calling him a “liar” following an 24-hour ultimatum from the banned outfit to apologize for his remark or face action.
