FICCI FLO Northeast Chapter observed World Environment Day with different back-to-nature activities today.
FLO Northeast distributed thousands of Giloy saplings in Nazirakhat village in Sonapur district of Assam in association with the Social Forestry Department of the Government of Assam.
Giloy is a medicinal vine having a wide range of usage in ayurvedic treatments. It helps in treating diabetes, building immunity, and facilitating weight loss.
These Giloy saplings will help in making the village greener and in the beautification of the village too. The plant can be a source of income for the villagers as Giloy is in high demand for its medicinal value. This was also a part of FLO Northeast’s motto – Engage and Empower to uplift the villages.
FLO Northeast has also planted 500 flower and fruit saplings in Boko in association with the Social Forestry Department, Assam government. The fruit saplings were mainly of indigenous varieties which would grow easily in this climate.
An online workshop on the kitchen garden, balcony garden, and home composting was also organised by FLO Northeast to mark this year’s World Environment Day. FLO Northeast Chairperson, Ms Suruchi Agarwal, invited subject matter expert Ms Anu Ganapathy from Bangalore to guide participants on how to start and maintain their gardens. Ms Ganapathy also taught with examples how every gardener can create their compost from kitchen wastes and help reduce their carbon footprint on this planet. The program was supported by OxyZone.
