World teachers’ day or International Teachers’ Day is observed every year on October 5 to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.

World Teachers Day: History

World Teacher’s Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1994 to especially celebrate teachers and their constant service that plays a crucial role in the development of each individual.

It also marks the anniversary of the adoption of 1966 ILO – UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers along with mentioning the various guidelines pertaining to their rights and duties as well as other governing factors for their overall growth and development.

The theme of World Teachers’ Day 2021 is ‘Teachers at the heart of education recovery’.

On this day the continuous service of teachers and their contribution to educating others are acknowledged. The aim is to recognize the various challenges faced by the teachers and this profession. It’s an occasion to resolve issues relating to this profession and to recognize the rights and responsibilities of the teachers.
