At least 16 people were severely injured and two people killed in a blast near the Lahore residence of Hafiz Saeed, co-founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba and the chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) on Wednesday.

The injured were shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital via private cars and auto-rickshaws, a rescue official said.

Police and bomb disposal teams reached the site of the incident soon after the explosion in Johar town and started rescue operations.

Witnesses said that the explosion was so strong that it shattered the glass windows of houses and buildings near the site . A few buildings at the site of the incident were also damaged in the blast.

An eyewitness told Geo News that an unidentified individual parked a motorcycle near the house which later exploded. Police, meanwhile, cordoned off the area for further investigation while traffic was redirected. The nature of the blast, however, has not been confirmed yet.

After this incident, several photos and videos of the blast were shared on social media.

Punjab Province Chief Minister Usman Buzdar condemned the incident and demanded strict action against those who are responsible for this blast. And tweeted from the account of CM office, “Punjab Chief Minister seeks report from IG police on blast in Johar Town Order for an immediate investigation of the incident. Emergency declared at Jinnah Hospital and other hospitals. Instructions to Rescue 1122 and relief agencies to expedite relief activities .”
