Miss Papua New Guinea 2019, Lucy Maino has been stripped of her crown after a TikTok video of her twerking went viral on social media.
The 25-year-old pageant winner faced intense online harassment after she shared a video of herself twerking on TikTok. The video was downloaded from her account and intensely circulated.
People said it was not fit for a role model to share a video of herself dancing this way.
Maino was “released” from her duties by the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG (MPIP PNG) committee this week, reported The Guardian.
“After discussions with Miss Maino last week, MPIP PNG now formally advises that the reign of the 2019 crowned Miss Papua New Guinea had come to an end and Miss Maino has been released with immediate effect,” MPIP PNG said in a statement.
The committe said MPIP PNG promotes the virtues of confidence, self-worth, integrity, and community service with a parallel focus on education.
However, netizens have stood in support with her, calling it a ‘misogynistic’ decision. Check what they said:
