NASA’s Perseverance rover has shared an exciting photo from right before its wheels first touched down on Mars.
A photo shared by the official Perseverance Twitter account gives an extremely rare close-up of an entire rover hovering over another planet.
Shot from higher ground, the picture gives a new perspective on the area where Perseverance landed. The first pictures that were shared just after landing were captured with black and white navigation cameras.
The new photo, however, is of higher quality and showcases the flat and welcoming patch of Martian land that Perseverance will begin its mission on.
More high-quality photos are expected to be sent back from the rover’s Mastcam-Z imagers to Earth in coming days.
