Agartala: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday apprehended Apollo Chakma, alleged to be an armed cadre of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), near the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Dhalai district.
According to a press release, the accused, identified as Apollo Chakma, son of Bijay Chakma and a resident of Panchari in Khagrachari district, Bangladesh, was detained while allegedly crossing into Indian territory through Gate No. 2 of the Amrit Para BSF camp.
BSF personnel reportedly recovered a walkie-talkie set from his possession. He was later handed over to the Rashyabari Police Station for further legal action. Tripura Police have registered a case against him under charges including illegal entry into India and alleged involvement in cattle smuggling.

The PCJSS faction is led by Santu Larma, who also heads the Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council in Bangladesh.
In a September 5, 2024 judgment in National Investigation Agency vs. Rohmingliana, the Gauhati High Court made observations regarding the activities of PCJSS cadres in the context of an arms smuggling case.
Security sources have alleged that certain PCJSS elements have been involved in cross-border crimes along the Indo-Bangladesh border, including smuggling of arms, narcotics, cattle and contraband goods. Public protests were also reported in parts of South Tripura in mid-2025 over alleged criminal activities linked to cross-border networks.
